In the not too distant future Lucius Brown and Abel Buckland an old London - Past World. Past World is a theme park that takes up the viktiorianische age. Visitors must be dressed in authentic, to adapt their manners and gestures bring any modern inventions in the park. Past World
live and work in the so-called locals - all of course 100% authentic. Taken up, the old London - trapped under a large dome that simulates the time of day and the mist that rises every morning, is artificially created.
In this old new world happen but also terrible, unplanned things: people are murdered. The culprit is the so-called phantom to act out the Jack the Ripper seems. The police of the Scotland Yard is the perpetrator at his heels.
But behind all the artificial and authentic hides a much larger mystery.

tells the story from many different views. Once out of Eve's point of view, through her diary entries in I-shape. Then they also accompanied the police Catchpole, Caleb Brown, BibleMac, the Phantom and some others on their path through history and past World.
is special: There are small ads, fact sheets and handouts from the text, which makes the story a little clearer.
The narration means that you can combine small pieces of the puzzle slowly to a whole and only shortly before the end of the curtain as far as lifts that you understand the big picture. This one or the other (detail) should remain open.
Sometimes these acts of narration a bit confused, because often in parallel is also told. Experienced readers, but the spin around out.
Beck's writing style is fluid, but distant. Only by Eve's diary entries, you get a real feel for the character. The others seem a bit pale and shallow. Especially with Caleb, it is more clearly. His reasons and decisions, all his almost apathetic way, I could not understand.
The basic idea is really very interesting. I do not want to reveal too much, because it is exciting to come to the many secrets and details of Past World and its creators and the phantom itself, the track. Eve's role also opens up the reader only slowly, even if one develops a slight clue.
honest, I am still somewhat torn on whether me the book like it or not. Sometimes I lacked tension and I would have preferred a slightly faster action. In the Past World watches just go slower, as was mentioned in the novel. Even with the characters I could not really , Make friends because their motives and motives were sometimes very obscure.

short: you are taken away in an old mysterious London and follows many threads until it connects to a strand - and that just takes! Despite all, a different kind of entertainment.
